Did Bill Gates maintain a relationship with Jeffrey Epstein?

This month, Judy Woodruff with PBS News Hour interviewed Bill Gates. When she started asking questions about Gates' relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, things got a little uncomfortable for Gates.

Woodruff: "It was reported that you continued to meet with him (Epstein) over several years and that, another words a number of meetings. Um, what did you do when you found out about his background?"

Gates: "Well, it, you know, I've said that I regretted having those dinners. Ah, and there's nothing absolutely nothing new on that."

We see Gates is nervous and hesitant when he started off his answer by saying, "Well, it, you know."

After Woodruff said, "you continued to meet with him over several years," Gates shakes his head left and right as if to say, "No, that isn’t true." However, in his answer, he does not deny meeting with Epstein over several years.

The question asked was, "What did you do when you found out about his background?" While he gave an answer, Gates did not answer that specific question. He did not tell us what he did after he found out about Epstein's background. This means he is withholding information.

Woodruff: "Is there a lesson for you, for anyone else looking at this?"

Gates: "Well, he's dead. So, ah, you know, in general you always have to be careful, ah, and you know, you know, um, um very proud of what we've done in philanthropy, very proud of the work for the foundation. Ah, you know, that's, that's what I get up every day and focus on."

It is odd he mentioned that Epstein was dead. That fact has nothing to do with answering the question.

He does answer the specific question by saying, "You always have to be careful."

Again, we see a lot of hesitation and nervousness. Twice he used the interjection "um." Three times he used the interjection "ah." Four times he used the phrase "you know." He also repeated the word "that's."
