Cam Newton's Apology

Cam Newton is the starting quarterback for the Carolina Panthers. On September 29, 2012, the Panthers nearly beat the undefeated Atlanta Falcons. Towards the end of the game, Newton fumbled the ball in what would have been a game-clinching first down. The ball was recovered by the Panthers but it forced the Panthers to punt setting up the Falcons for a game winning drive. After the game, Newton was apologetic for fumbling the ball.

"I want to apologize to my teammates and to the fans that were watching out there."

The shortest sentence is the best sentence. When you can remove words from a sentence and the sentence is still grammatically correct, those extra words give us extra information. "I apologize..." is a better statement than saying, "I want to apologize..." The words "want to" weaken his apology.
